Glasgow 2020 Educational Fellowships

These Fellowships are for BDIAP members and BDIAP Schools applicants only, particularly those at Foundation and Specialty Trainee Level (or equivalent in their home country) and are intended to allow members to undertake research and other investigative activities such as audits that should be submitted as abstracts in the early Spring of 2020 for the Glasgow 2020 meeting to be held in the Autumn.

The maximum value of any one Fellowship is £2,500 but applications for smaller amounts will also be considered.

Applications must be made by 21 June 2019 to allow a sufficient lead time to undertake the research or investigation. Applicants are requested to submit their proposals 6 weeks before the start date to allow time for the Educational Subcommittee to assess the application.

Additional Travel Bursaries will be made available for attendance at Glasgow 2020. Preference will be given to those who have previously been awarded such a Fellowship in advance of the meeting. Others who have submitted abstracts accepted for presentation at Glasgow 2020 (oral, poster or e-poster) will also be considered.

Eligibility

You may apply for the educational fellowship if:

  • You are a BDIAP Member Country Trainee Member (UK, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands)
  • You are a training pathologist in a BDIAP Schools Country (Sri Lanka, East Africa, Arab Schools)

Regulations for the Fellowships

  1. The British Division of the IAP has established Fellowships for members of the BDIAP, including Trainee members, and BDIAP Schools applicants to enable them to undertake research and investigative activities such as audits requiring additional funds (typically NOT routine service audits) that should be submitted as abstracts for the Glasgow 2020 meeting. Council of the BDIAP will support up to 20 such fellowships before the Glasgow meeting.
  2. BDIAP Educational Fellowships for Glasgow 2020 are available for a period of activity of a maximum of twelve months. It will be seen as an advantage if the fellowship is for an additional stipend and/or travel expenses to augment salary paid by the present employer.
  3. A maximum sum of £2,500 pounds sterling will be allocated to any one person but applications for smaller sums are welcomed.
  4. After its award, a Fellowship must be taken up within the following twelve months, at the latest before the date of submission of abstracts for the Glasgow 2020 meeting (date to be confirmed in Spring 2020). A short report (e.g. copy of submitted abstract) should be sent to the Administrator of the BDIAP for the Council’s information.
