The 13th International Junior Academy Summer School
On behalf of the British and German Divisions of the IAP, the 13th International Junior Academy Summer School will take place in Bonn, Germany on 10-12 August 2023.
The International Junior Academy is particularly aimed at pathologists in training. It provides a great opportunity to meet with experts and discuss selected topics in depth. In addition, you can meet colleagues from other countries and exchange ideas.
The event will take place in the training centre of the German Division. Virtual participation is also possible.
The 2023 Summer School will include the following topics:
- Head and Neck Pathology
- Lymphoma
- Liver Pathology
- Gastrointestinal Pathology
- Mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract
- Hematopathology
- Immunohistochemistry

Bursaries to attend the Junior Academy
Apply for a BDIAP bursary to attend the 13th International Junior Academy Summer School.
Applications are open to attend in person or virtual participation. There are four in person and four virtual bursaries available.
In person bursaries will consist of free registration, hotel accommodation and reasonable travel costs to attend the summer school.
Virtual bursaries include free registration for virtual participation in the lectures.
All applications will be reviewed formally by the Innovation Subcommittee.
Successful recipients will be encouraged to present an interesting case on any of the school’s topics (see above).

Applications are open to:
- BDIAP Member Country Trainee Members (UK, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands)
How do I apply?
- Complete the online application form below.
- Your Clinical Lead / Head of Department (as appropriate) must complete and submit a verification document.
When completing the online application form applicants will be asked to write a short statement (200 words) to demonstrate how they would benefit from being awarded a BDIAP bursary.
Please note:
- You will be asked to provide your IAP Reference Number when completing the online form. This can be found on the profile page of your Member Area.
- The verification document must be submitted.
- Only completed applications will be considered. Applications are considered complete once the online form has been submitted and the supporting verification document has been received.
- It is not possible to save and return to the application form.

Conditions of the bursary
The following conditions apply for successful bursary recipients:
- In person bursary recipients are required to participate in the social programme.
- Successful bursary recipients are encouraged to present an interesting case on any of the school’s topics.
- Bursary recipients are required to submit a short report within 3 months of the meeting. We will provide awarded applicants a guideline of what to include. The report will be made available on the BDIAP website and circulated to BDIAP members via our e-newsletter.
- A member is not entitled to more than one BDIAP bursary in any two-year period.
