The link with Bosnia arose following the Balkan wars when humanitarian support was being provided by Mike Feeney and the late Professor Bryan Warren. A proposal to provide support for the pathologists in Sarajevo and surrounding areas was made by Dr Semir Vranic and taken up by Professor Warren.

In honour of Professor Warren the Bosnian British School of Pathology was renamed in 2012 to the Bryan Warren School of Pathology (BWSP).

The school has had 16 successful meetings to date and is thriving as a result of local enthusiasm and BDIAP support. In additional to the annual meeting, support is provided to pathologists from Bosnia and surrounding countries to attend IAP congresses through the Nermin Durakovic bursaries.

The 17th Bryan Warren School of Pathology will take place on 23-24 November 2024 as a hybrid event. The topic is Lung and Mediastinum and lectures will be delivered by BDIAP President-Elect, Dr Jan von der Thüsen, and Dr Michael den Bakker.
