2021 RCPath/BDIAP Foundation Taster Event a Huge Success!

Last night the BDIAP and RCPath joined forces to provide a Virtual Taster Event for Foundation trainees and medical undergraduates interested in pathology specialties.

Over 130 delegates flooded into Zoom at 7pm and were welcomed by Dr Angharad Davies, Vice President for Learning at RCPath, and then by our General Secretary and President of RCPath Dr Mike Osborn, who explained the fantastic opportunities that a career in pathology can provide.

There were pre-recorded presentations to showcase the different specialties of Microbiology, Haematology, Chemical Pathology and Immunology, which were immensely enjoyable. Dr Katie Allen and Dr Mike Osborn had also prepared a presentation on histopathology through a COVID lens, focusing specifically on post-mortem findings and the training programme. All of the multidisciplinary contributors then put their minds towards discussion of a mystery case prepared and chaired excellently by our Deputy Meetings Secretary Dr Matt Clarke. This was then followed by a question and answer session where delegates had the opportunity to put their questions to the whole panel.

It was fabulous to see the enthusiasm of both the panellists and the would-be pathologist delegates.
To finish the evening Dr Abhi Ghosh gave a presentation on the BDIAP and the benefits of becoming a foundation member, the support we can provide, and how to get in touch with us.

For any questions about any aspect of histopathology training please contact us via the BDIAP website or social media; we would be delighted to help.
