Trainee Council Members

Dr Matthew Clarke joined the BDIAP council in 2014. He is a Histopathology Registrar currently working as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital/Institute of Cancer Research, studying for a PhD. Dr Clarke has a background in surgery but changed career path and became a histopathology trainee. He is a member of the Education & IT subcommittee on the council where he has responsibility for reviewing bursary and grant applications, developing the trainee aspect of the website, advertising and promoting BDIAP events to trainees, and encouraging medical students and junior doctors to consider a career in pathology. Dr Clarke is passionate about teaching pathology and public engagement, and also is extensively involved in trying to preserve pathology pot collections.


Dr Katie Allen joined the BDIAP council in 2015. She is an ST3 in histopathology, training in the Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery. She is part of the meetings subcommittee on the BDIAP council. Her role includes the planning and organisation of trainee events at the summer Joint meeting, assisting at other BDIAP meetings, providing social media updates of events and promoting trainee attendance. She is keen on increasing the exposure of junior doctors and medical students to histopathology. She is always keen to hear trainee ideas on what content they would like to see in future meetings, so please get in touch.
