Innovation Grants 2026

The BDIAP is offering a total of 10 Innovation Grants per year, up to £5,000 per grant.  

These grants are prestigious awards which will be awarded following detailed assessment of the application by the Innovation subcommittee of the BDIAP. The maximum value of each grant is £5,000.

Applications can be made at any time but must be submitted a minimum of 8 weeks before the proposed visit to allow time for the Innovation Subcommittee to assess the application.

All applications will be formally reviewed by the Innovation Subcommittee. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • BDIAP Member Country Trainee Members 
  • BDIAP Member Country Allied Scientist or Affiliate Members 
  • BDIAP Member Country Ordinary Members

Applicants must be a BDIAP Ordinary, Trainee, Allied Scientist or Affiliate Member from the UK, Ireland, Belgium or the Netherlands.

Travel Bursary 2026

A total of five travel bursaries will be available each year intended to support the cost of overseas travel undertaken by Member Country Members of the BDIAP, where the journey is one which may be expected to further the aims of the BDIAP.. 

All applications will be formally reviewed by the Innovation Subcommittee. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • BDIAP Member Country Ordinary Members  

Applicants must be a BDIAP Ordinary Member from the UK, Ireland, Belgium or the Netherlands.

Student Electives 2026

The  BDIAP is offering a total of 10 scholarships a year to undergraduate students of medicine as a contribution to enable them to work for elective or vacation periods in departments of histopathology/cellular pathology, molecular pathology or cytopathology in universities, NHS laboratories or research institutes in the UK or overseas. Proposals for work on research projects in histopathology or for acquisition of experience in diagnostic departments are eligible for consideration.

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • Member Country Undergraduate Medical Students

Applicants must be an undergraduate medical student from a BDIAP member country (UK, Belgium, Ireland or the Netherlands). Applicants need not be a BDIAP member.

Manchester Pathology 2026 (Residents/Allied Scientists)

The 16th Joint Meeting of the BDIAP and the Pathological Society will take place in Manchester, United Kingdom on 23-25 June 2026.

The BDIAP has six awards available to contribute towards attendance at Manchester Pathology for residents, affiliates and allied scientists. Bursaries will consist of free registration to the meeting including welcome reception and conference dinner and a financial contribution of up to £1000 towards travel and accommodation. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • BDIAP Member Country Resident Members 
  • BDIAP Member Country Allied Scientist or Affiliate Members 

Applicants must be a BDIAP Resident or Allied Scientist or Affiliate Member from the UK, Ireland, Belgium or the Netherlands.

Manchester Pathology 2026 (Foundation Bursaries)

The 16th Joint Meeting of the BDIAP and the Pathological Society will take place in Manchester, United Kingdom on 23-25 June 2026.

The BDIAP has six awards available to contribute towards registration for Manchester Pathology for Foundation Doctors. Bursaries will consist of free registration to the meeting including welcome reception and conference dinner and a financial contribution of up to £300 towards travel and accommodation. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • BDIAP Member Country Foundation Members 

Applicants must be a BDIAP Foundation Member from the UK, Ireland, Belgium or the Netherlands.

The BDIAP has six awards available to contribute towards attendance at Manchester Pathology for BDIAP Schools. Bursaries will consist of free registration to the meeting including welcome reception and conference dinner and a financial contribution of up to £2000 towards travel and accommodation. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • Applicants from BDIAP Schools (Sri Lankan, East African, Bosnian and Kristin Henry Schools).

Applicants from BDIAP Schools must be pathologists in training or within two years of having been appointed consultant.

Student Electives 2025

IAP Congress 2026

A total of six bursaries are available to attend IAP 2026. 

What does the bursary consist of?

  • Meeting registration fee.
  • Financial contribution towards travel and accommodation. 

Am I eligible?

Applications are open to:

  • BDIAP Member Country Resident, Affiliate and Allied Scientist Members

  • Abstract acceptance is a requirement of the bursary. Abstracts should be submitted via the IAP 2026 Congress website. 

Member Countries: UK, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands.
