BDIAP bursaries to attend IAP 2026

The XXXVI Congress of the International Academy of Pathology, IAP 2026, will take place in Fukuoka, Japan hosted by the Japanese Division of the International Academy of Pathology. 

The Congress will be taking place in person from 08-13 October 2026. 

BDIAP bursaries are available to attend the Congress. 

Bursaries are open to:

  • BDIAP Resident Members from the UK, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
  • BDIAP Affiliate and Allied Scientist Members from the UK, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. 
  • BDIAP Schools.
  • Nermin Durakovic bursaries for Bosnian pathologists.

Please note: Abstract acceptance is a condition of the bursary for all applicants, including BDIAP Schools and the named Nermin Durakovic bursaries. Abstracts must be submitted via the IAP2026 Congress website. The abstract submission process is independent to the bursary administration process.

BDIAP Resident and Allied Scientist Bursaries

A total of six bursaries are available to attend IAP 2026. 

Bursary applications will be formally reviewed by the BDIAP Innovation Subcommittee. 

What does the bursary consist of?

  • Congress registration fee.
  • Financial contribution towards travel and accommodation.
  • BDIAP bursary certificate upon completion of a bursary report.

Am I eligible?

  • Applicants must be a BDIAP Resident, Affiliate or Allied Scientist Member from the UK, Belgium, Ireland, or the Netherlands. 
  • Abstract acceptance is a requirement of the bursary. Abstracts should be submitted via the IAP 2026 Congress website. 

How do I apply?

Prior to applying for a bursary, you must have submitted an abstract to the Congress. 

  1. Complete an online application form, including abstract submission details. 
  2. Submit the required verification document. 

Please note:

  • When completing the online application form applicants will be asked to write a short statement (150 words) to demonstrate how they would benefit from being awarded a BDIAP bursary to attend the Congress.
  • You will be asked to provide your submitted abstract number(s) and the title of the abstract(s) when completing the online form. 
  • You will be asked to upload a copy of your abstract when completing the application form. 
  • Only completed applications will be considered. Applications are considered complete once the online form has been submitted and a supporting verification document and a copy of your submitted abstract(s) has been received.

Key dates

10 April 2026 - Abstract submission deadline.
30 April 2026 - Bursary application deadline.
June 2026 - Bursary application outcomes communicated with applicants.

Outcomes will be communicated with applicants following the formal abstract notifications issued by the Congress Organisers.

BDIAP Schools and Nermin Durakovic Bursaries

To apply for a BDIAP Schools or Nermin Durakovic bursary you must apply via the (Central) International Academy of Pathology. 

The BDIAP is supporting six BDIAP Schools bursaries and three Nermin Durakovic bursaries. 

The Central IAP will be processing applications on behalf of the British Division of the IAP. 

BDIAP Schools applicants must be based within one of the BDIAP Schools: Kristin Henry (Arab), Bosnian, East African or Sri Lankan Schools.  

Applicants for the named Nermin Durakovic bursary must be a Bosnian training pathologist or within the first two years of a substantive consultant post.
